The Commissioner for Special Duties in Anambra State Rt. Hon. Beverley Nkemdiche Ikpeazu has admonished lawmakers in the 8th legislature to pay particular attention to their respective constituencies and not abandon them.
Ikpeazu who gave the admonition during an exclusive interview with HEADLINE NEWS at the House of Assembly complex Awka shortly after attending the second year anniversary of the 8th parliament, said the need for the legislators to pay particular attention to their constituencies can not be overemphasized because they were the ones who sent them to represent them at the state assembly.
Ikpeazu who was a 3-time member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, maintained that the lawmakers' representations shouldn't be an Awka affair but they should go back to their various constituencies to find out what they need and address them because that was the secret that kept her in the legislature where she represented Onitsha-South 2 state constituency for 12 years.
She said as a lawmaker, she was always in touch with her constituents and as a Commissioner in Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's cabinet, she is still in touch with her people. She therefore emphasized the dire need for the 8th assembly lawmakers to always have interactions with their constituents and let them feel the dividends of democracy and good representation.
The Special Duties Commissioner noted that they can not be Awka legislators rather they should always go to the grassroots where they were elected and address their concerns, stressing that if they don't, they may not be reelected.
She however pointed out that so far so good the 8th assembly has been very wonderful relating with the Executive arm very cordially.
She also lauded the Speaker of the 8th assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkemakonam Udeze, saying that he has kept the House very intact and working collaboratively with other arms of government to move the state forward.
