RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Hon. Mrs. Iyom Amaka Obi, the Executive Mayor of Idemili-South Local Government Area has made it categorically clear that no politician will deceive Anambra people again with all manner of fake promises as the state prepares for the November 8th governorship election.
Obi who made the declarative statement at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka while addressing women at the inaugural ceremony of Solution Ladies Movement of Nigeria, said Anambra people now know the truth and they have resolved not to trade their conscience for crumbs and peanuts from those she described as marauding desperate politicians plotting to dupe the state in the guise of governorship aspirations.
Obi stated that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has shown Anambra people the truth with his governance model as clearly evident in the three years he has stayed in office. She maintained that if the governor could perform magic in three years, one wonders what will happen in another five years with him on the saddle.
She therefore emphasized that no person in his or her right senses would go looking for peanuts from politicians carrying " Ghana-Must-Go " whereas Governor Soludo has empowered youths in the state with the One Youth Two Skills Development Initiative which she said has produced many entrepreneurs who are now financially independent and contributing to the growth of their respective families.
Obi who is the Convener of Women Initiative for Greater Anambra (WIGA) and also the Woman Leader of All Soludo Support Groups (ASSG) noted that pregnant women get antenatal and child delivery services free of charge in all government hospitals in Anambra courtesy of the Soludo administration.
She said Soludo equally declared free education for all Anambra children and that currently every child in the state has unhindered access to qualitative and functional education.
Obi maintained that the era of politicians using youths as political thugs have gone and that such man's inhumanity to man will not repeat itself again because Governor Soludo, according to her, has come to change the negative narratives politicians used to deceive the people.
The WIGA convener therefore recalled that in the last governorship election, women supported the governor massively even when the former Deputy Governor, House of Assembly members and many others betrayed APGA and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in search of greener pastures.
She said in spite of the betrayals, Anambra people still made a bold and courageous statement with their votes by making sure that Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo won the election, stressing that the era of people selling their conscience for peanuts have gone.
According to her, Anambra needs individuals who can deliver good governance to the people and not marauding characters seeking to wrestle power for personal aggrandizements.
