RAYMOND OZOJI reports

The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State (Ochabrigade) says it will begin demolition of all illegal structures cum shanties along Awka-Onitsha federal highway from January next year.

Disclosing this to HEADLINE NEWS at King David Hotel Awka shortly after receiving an award for quality public service delivery from Ohaneze-Ndigbo World Wide last weekend, Managing Director of Ochabrigade Chief Celestine Anere said that the organization will stop at nothing this time to enforce environmental cleanliness in the state.

Anere said that defaulters have been given more than enough notice to remove whatsoever they have constituting public nuisances on the roads; that any form of degradation on the environment will no longer be tolerated henceforth.

Anere said that all the shanties from Amansea in Awka-North to Head-Bridge Onitsha will be demolished and there would be a lot of changes and improvements in the citizens' attitudes towards the environment.

He equally pointed out that from next year too, Ochabrigade will enforce the use of sanitary/waste buckets for every home, shops, businesses and other places to control indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the environment.

He however thanked Ohaneze-Ndigbo World Wide for the award, saying that Ochabrigade will continue to enforce clean and healthy environment in the state.

He also said that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has been very supportive in providing all the paraphernalia needed to ensure a clean and healthy Anambra State.
