As Anambra citizens prepare for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's 3rd anniversary celebration on March 17th, 2025, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Hon. Chief Ossy Onuko has observed very clearly that in comparative analysis what the incumbent governor has spent in three years is 65% of what ex-governor Peter Obi spent in 2013 in dollar terms.
Onuko equally observed that what Governor Soludo expensed in three years is 70% of what was spent in 2014 also in dollars, pointing out that what Soludo would have spent in four years would still be less than what was spent in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
Onuko who made the observations in his office while assessing the governor's three year performance, told HEADLINE NEWS that it has been three years of excellent service to Ndi-Anambra. He was particular about the capital territory, saying that it has been three years of unrelenting dedicated and committed service delivery such that has never been seen before in the over 33 years of creation of Anambra State.
He stated that the governor Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo came into governance with a master plan cum agenda he tagged " liveable and prosperous homeland." Hence the governor, according to him, has dedicated the last three years of his administration to working for the well-being of Ndi-Anambra; receiving torrents of awards, accolades, laurels including criticisms for his disruptive changes.
The ACTDA boss maintained that Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has changed the infrastructural conditions of Anambra State and according to him, there has never been a government within the first three years of its existence done 1/3 of what Soludo has done in three years.
Onuko said, " What Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has spent in three years is what Peter Obi spent in one year in 2013 and about 70% of what was spent in 2014. All in dollar terms. "
He said Soludo's government has awarded over 700 kilometers of roads and over 400 kilometers completed. That the present state government has dared to build a city in a city as seen in the new governor's lodge and new government house which he described as a mega city in a city and unprecedented.
He said Soludo is a governor who realized that for Awka to be a city, it must have the requisite amenities and infrastructures befitting of a capital city hence the making of a major recreation centre called the Solution Fun City Awka.
Onuko further disclosed that another big puzzle coming up is the Awka City Park. He said government has cleared over 20 hectres of land that will house the zoo, green areas and so on and where people will come and fill at home with nature, adding that everywhere in Anambra is now a construction site.
Ife-Igbo as Onuko is also called traditionally, said another milestone achievement of the present administration is the regeneration of the once chaotic Ekwulobia Roundabouts in Aguata council area where he said that the governor through his ingenious ideas solved the problems of massive societal disorder in the area.
He said there is now a functional Ekwulobia Roundabouts with brand new dualised roads, flyovers, central bus station and a well organized and coordinated market square; noting that those transformations were done to regenerate Ekwulobia city being one of the four major cities in Anambra as postulated by the Jim Nwobodo administration in 1985.
He said that the governor is carefully paying priority attention to Awka, Ekwulobia, Onitsha and Nnewi which are the four major cities in the state, regenerate them as well as make them liveable and prosperous cities.
The ACTDA MD said Governor Soludo has taken road infrastructure to hard to reach areas like Ayamelum and Anambra-West council areas. That there were no functional hospitals in Anambra-North senatorial district but the governor, according to him, has built and equipped five functional general hospitals in Anambra-North region of the state, all with very meagre resources.
Onuko who commended Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo's frugality and financial prudence in the management and judicious deployment of meagre resources, reiterated that Anambra State had a boom in 2013 and 2014 and that in those years the state had more revenues due to stability in oil prices in the international market.
Onuko therefore left Ndi-Anambra to scrutinize and critically assess the service delivery in 2013 and 2014 alongside amount of money expended by the Peter Obi administration which he said is higher than what Soludo has spent in just three years of his administration.
