The Anambra State Chapter of the Ohaneze-Ndigbo World Wide says the crux of the matter at her 2024 end-of-the-year summit and award-giving ceremony would be to re-echo and to reawaken the Igba-Boi Apprenticeship Scheme that has almost become extinct in Igbo land.
Outgoing state president of the Ohaneze-Ndigbo in Anambra, Chief Obi Chukwuemekalum Udodeme, who spoke to HEADLINE NEWS at the Government House Awka about the summit, said it would be a wake-up call for Ndigbo especially the younger generation who now prefer the fast lane to ill-gotten wealth rather than the age long Igba-Boi Igbo people were known for.
Udodeme who said that the summit which will be held at King David Hotel Awka on 14th December 2024, will equally play host to the state governor Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the first lady Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, Deputy Commander-General (Logistics) of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service Amb. Dr. John Metchie and a host of other very distinguished personalities from far and near.
He also said that they have resolved to use the occasion to thank as well as appreciate the people who have done very well in serving Anambra State and the nation at large. That they have selected some people to not necessarily give them awards but to appreciate them for their good deeds and to encourage them to do more.
Udodeme noted that the climax of the occasion would be a lecture on the age long Igba-Boi Apprenticeship Scheme in Igbo land, stressing that the lecture would serve as a subtle reminder of the benefits of Igba-Boi apprenticeship training and empowerment, adding that the youths would be there in their numbers to listen with avid attentiveness on the benefits of Igba-Boi and why it is important that the scheme is revived.
He therefore observed that juvenile delinquencies are the order of the day across Nigeria and stressed the dire need for such antisocial behaviours to be nipped in the bud because he believes that it is eating deep into the fabrics of the society.
Although he was of the opinion that crimes amongst young people can not be fought with barrels of the gun but platforms like the Ohaneze-Ndigbo end of the year summit could be deployed to talk to youths about the benefits of hard work, benefits of being loyal to their bosses and benefits of doing the right thing at the right time because he believes that procrastination is a thief of time and there is no benefits in crime and criminality.
