The Anambra State Chapter of the Ohaneze-Ndigbo has declared Chief Mrs. Amaka Obi as the best performing Mayor cum Local Government Chairman in the state.
The Igbo socio-cultural group made the declaration while conferring award of best performing Mayor on her during the organisation's end-of-the-year summit and award-giving ceremony at King David Hotel Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The State President of Ohaneze-Ndigbo in Anambra Chief Obi Chukwuemekalum Udodeme said the award of best performing Mayor was bestowed on Chief Mrs. Amaka Obi because of her monumental achievements and sterling performance in Idemili-South Local Government Area where her grassroots development programmes and initiatives are revolutionary.
Udodeme noted that Amaka Obi has indeed localized Local Government Administration in Idemili-South and the recognition of her giant strides by Ohaneze-Ndigbo was based on merit and everyone could testify that apart from being the only woman amongst the 21 Local Government Mayors in Anambra State, Amaka Obi has indeed brought monumental transformations to Idemili-South Local Government Area.
Udodeme therefore maintained that it was traditional for Ohaneze-Ndigbo to single out distinguished illustrious sons and daughters of Igbo land who have remarkable achievements in their respective endeavors and give them awards as means of encouraging them to do more in order to uplift humanity.
He said Amaka Obi has performed excellently well and she deserved the award given to her by Ohaneze-Ndigbo. Udodeme also pointed out that it took Ohaneze-Ndigbo about 8 months to painstakingly decide on who to bestow the award of best performing local government chairman as they traversed the 21 Local Government Areas consulting and asking relevant questions after which Chief Mrs. Amaka Obi was tipped for the award of best performing Mayor in Anambra State 2024.
The award recipient Amaka Obi thanked Ohaneze-Ndigbo for the recognition, noting that the reward for hard work is more work and that the award of best performing Mayor has placed a bigger task on her. She therefore promised as well as assured Ohaneze-Ndigbo that she would continue to make them proud in her service to Ndi-Idemili-south and also continue to support the cause of Ndigbo.
