Contrary to fabrications and importations of stories alleging that the abductors of Hon. Justice Chukwunenye Azuka collected 100 Million Naira as ransom and still killed him, his colleagues in the 8th assembly have said that such stories were misleading because his killers were unable to access his bank account.
Speaking to HEADLINE NEWS at the state assembly complex Awka on Thursday, the Majority Leader of the 8th assembly Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme and the Deputy Minority Whip Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi were both perplexed at such reports saying that no such thing ever happened and they doubt if the late lawmaker ever had such huge sums of money in his bank account.
Ofodeme who represents Ekwusigo state constituency reiterated that no money was taken from Azuka's bank account and that the only money they took from him was the N200,000 they found in his vehicle while they struggled to overpower him based on the confessions of the arrested suspects.
He further disclosed that Hon. Justice Azuka died even before the kidnappers got into the real business of forcing him to reveal the security code of his phone to no avail. That the lawmaker gave up the ghost in the course of struggling with his abductors.
Also the Deputy Minority Whip and member representing Anaocha 1 state constituency, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi noted that Hon. Justice Azuka was barely a year in the House of Assembly and that since his inception into the House, he has been humble and dedicated to duty.
Ogbuefi said that Azuka's demise was quite pathetic because the late lawmaker brought himself to the service of everyone in the House of Assembly. She recalled that the last official assignment the late lawmaker had was the International Women's Constitutional Amendment they both attended in Abuja.
She said thereafter nothing was heard about Hon. Justice Chukwunenye Azuka, only for them to receive the news of his decomposing carcass on the internet, adding that such was a fate she doesn't wish her enemies.
Ogbuefi said she has been reading a lot of stories lately that a hundred million naira was collected from his bank account, describing such as the antics of mischief makers because she said Hon. Justice Azuka was not using a good phone when he was alive.
She said Hon. Azuka lived from hand to mouth while he was still alive and also knows about his remonstration. According to her, Azuka's abductors never called for one day to demand for money; wondering how the said N100 Million was taken from his account.
Ogbuefi said she was sure that the late Hon. Justice Azuka did not have up to N10 Million in his bank account because she knows his complaints, stressing that the news of N100 Million taken from his account was a fallacy.
Ogbuefi said that she had to call the attention of the leadership of the House of Assembly to the news when she saw it and insisted that it should be debunked immediately because it gave the impression that other lawmakers equally have N100 Million in their bank accounts.
Although she pointed out that the leadership of the House of Assembly was still complacent about debunking the news of the said N100 Million taken from Azuka's bank account by his abductors, she also disclosed that it was one Ezeobi who escalated the false news of N100 Million ransom on his Facebook page and it went viral.
Ogbuefi told HEADLINE NEWS that even the Labour Party Caucus in the House of Assembly has not put up any statements debunking the said N100 Million allegedly taken from late Azuka's bank account. She said that the leadership of the Labour Party caucus seemed nonchalant about the plight of her members in the 8th assembly.
