RAYMOND OZOJI reports
Idemili-North Local Government Area of Anambra State is to launch a crusade cum public enlightenment programme against gender-based violence especially sexual molestations against underaged girls.
Executive chairman of the council area Hon. Stanley Nkwoka who disclosed this to HEADLINE NEWS at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka on Friday, maintained that it has become very necessary to launch a sensitization campaign against the menace in order to prevent women and underaged girls falling prey to predators.
Nkwoka who recounted the ordeal of a 4 year old girl sexually molested by a certain male pastor in the area, said it was indeed terrible that someone could subject a fellow human being to such level of satanic and dehumanizing experience.
He stated that the local government authority worked closely with the wife of the governor Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, Commissioner for Health Dr. Ben Afam Obidike and the supervisor for health to ensure that the little girl who was sexually abused got prompt medical care and speedy recovery from the ugly episode while the rapist pastor has been arrested and currently in police custody.
He therefore reiterated that Idemili-North Local Government Authority would organise a sensitization summit next week at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka to educate little girls and women on gender-based violence and to curb the menace.
Nkwoka said he was particularly worried and concerned about the escalation of sexual molestations against minors in Idemili-North and the state in general, noting that the forthcoming summit on gender-based violence is a clarion call as well as collective action against the devilish act, stressing that they don't want such despicable things to repeat themselves again and that the law will catch up with anyone who tried to commit such crimes.
