Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has declared that Presidents-General of communities where senseless Killings and Kidnappings occur would be arrested as accomplices to the crime as he believes that the PGs should know their communities more than security personnel drafted to the communities.
Soludo who had not the slightest premonition of the gruesome murder of eight persons at Chigbonu village Umuike Ubahuekwem Ihiala and two security operatives recently, when he made the declaration at the 2024 Civil/Public Servants Day at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat Complex Awka, stated categorically that henceforth Presidents-General would be held accountable for crimes perpetrated in their domains because they can't be PGs for nothing.
Soludo said those who live the bush and call themselves kidnappers, illicit drug peddlers, cultists and touts are not unknown instead they are siblings and relatives. to people living in communities where they unleash terror and mayhem on innocent unsuspecting citizens. That they are not spirits but human beings living amongst the people.
The governor stressed that the security and safety of lives and property in the state is a collective responsibility and as such all hands must be on deck to save Anambra State and the entire Southeast from the dark days of the post Biafran civil war era where there were a lot of widows because of those whose husbands died during the war as well as many young ladies who were eligible for marriage but there were no men available to marry them because the young men had died at the war front.
He said anybody claiming that he is a Biafra agitator in the bush is telling a big lie because they are just criminals in the bush, stressing that no agitation for self-rule is done in the bush with massive diabolic shrines.
The governor however charged communities PGs to fish out native doctors who prepare charms for criminals for their operations. He said his government will also declare total war on native doctors and priestesses who concoct charms for criminals in the Forests. That such medicine men and women must be flushed out and their shrines burnt as Anambra can not condone such evil practices.
Governor Soludo stated that more than 70% of the criminals are not Anambra citizens as they perceived the state to be where they could come and make fast money thereby lending credence to the notion that Anambra State is home for all. But Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has also amended the maxim to correct the wrong impression that Anambra is not just home for all but home for all law-abiding people.
He said all the Presidents-General must accredit and document all the native doctors and priestesses in their respective communities for proper identification and scrutiny.
The governor therefore maintained that any PG that failed to document all the native doctors and priestesses in his community would be taken out and arrested as an accomplice. That the PG must be held culpable otherwise he has no business being President-General of a community and must relinquish office, noting that some of the kidnapped victims are kept at the native doctors' shrines.
