The Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Arinzechukwu Agbodike House of Representatives member representing Ihiala federal constituency at the National Assembly, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkemakonam Udeze, National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chief Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, the Ag. Vice Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha and a host of other very distinguished personalities are to be honoured with ASATU Icons Award at the general assembly cum end of the year gathering of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) slated for 7th December, 2024.
The event which will hold at the ASATU national secretariat Government House Awka, will also provide veritable platform for cross pollination and fertilization of ideas as to how to enhance local security in all the 179 communities of Anambra State.
Speaking exclusively to HEADLINE NEWS about the ASATU end of the year gathering and award ceremony, the National President Chief Barr. Titus Nnabuike Akpudo said past Presidents-General will also be honoured for their contributions towards the growth and development of their respective communities.
Akpudo noted that those selected for the ASATU Icons Award were persons who have remarkably distinguished themselves in their respective fields of endeavours. He said Paschal Agbodike was found worthy of the ASATU Icons Award because the people of Ihiala testified to his outstanding stewardship and quality representations at the state legislature and at the Green Chambers.
Akpudo recalled that Paschal Agbodike had been the Deputy Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly before proceeding to the National Assembly following his sterling performance, stressing that Agbodike is representing the people of Ihiala very well.
He said that the APGA National Chairman Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa would be recognized as the ASATU Political Icon of the year for his resounding victory at the Supreme Court recently on one hand and on the other hand, for his stoicism in weathering all the political storms that confronted him such that it didn't affect the governance and administration of Anambra State.
Akpudo also disclosed that the Speaker of the 8th legislature of Anambra State Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkemakonam Udeze would be celebrated for his proactive and responsive approach to issues of the state assembly especially in ensuring that there is no acrimony or rancour between the legislative and executive arms of government.
He said that Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha the Acting Vice Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, past Presidents-General and other high profile individuals would be recognized for their meritorious service to their communities and the state at large.
Meanwhile Akpudo said that the ASATU end of the year get-together ceremony will equally be used to offer prayers and supplications to God for having spared their lives from January to December and also chart a new programme of action for the preceding year.
He said ASATU will also extend profound gratitude to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for not only transforming Anambra State with quality infrastructure but also ensuring the protection of lives and property of Ndi-Anambra while the Local Government Commissioner Hon. Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne (Ife-Anam) will be appreciated for stabilizing the traditional institutions and community town unions in Anambra State.
