Anambra Security Will Improve With Ken Emeakayi -- Lawmakers

RAYMOND OZOJI reports

Some lawmakers of the 8th legislature of Anambra State have described the appointment of Prince Ken Emeakayi as Special Adviser to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security as a welcome development. They also expressed optimism that security will henceforth improve in the state.

The lawmakers who spoke exclusively with HEADLINE NEWS shortly after plenary on Tuesday, said that the choice of Prince Ken Emeakayi for such sensitive position was in order because Emeakayi, according to them, is well rooted in the grassroots and also grounded in community affairs especially as a former President-General of Okija community in Ihiala Local Government Area.

One of the lawmakers, Hon. Noble Chukwunonso Igwe who is the Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, Deputy Chairman Committee on Media and Publicity as well as member representing Ogbaru 1 state constituency said Okija the country home of Prince Ken Emeakayi has watertight security coupled with solar-powered cameras in all the nooks and crannies of the community to track and trail illegal movements.

Igwe noted that the appointment of the former works commissioner as Special Adviser on Community Security might be because the state government wants him to replicate his achievements in security in Okija in the entire state.

He said that Governor Soludo was not sleeping over security issues in the state as he is working assiduously to ensure that the state is safe and secured even as he disclosed too that the governor has instructed all the newly minted Mayors of the 21 Local Government Areas to make sure that they have very functional security teams in their respective council areas.

He therefore maintained that should Ken Emeakayi apply some of the security strategies used in chasing criminal elements away from Okija, security will definitely improve in other communities.

Meanwhile the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Homeland Security and member representing Ayamelum state constituency Hon. Bernard Udemezue said Prince Ken Emeakayi is a household name in the state and that from his antecedents, he believes Emeakayi will meet the expectations of Ndi-Anambra as it concerns security of lives and properties in the state.

Udemezue who told HEADLINE NEWS that Governor Soludo is leaving no stone unturned in tackling insecurity in the state, explained that youths were the champions of insecurity even though the governor, according to him, has deployed the One Youth Two Skills Development Programme and other empowerment schemes to engage young people meaningfully to dissuade them from crimes and criminalities.

The lawmaker who suggested an improvement on intelligence gathering by the Police, Army, Vigilantes and other security agents, maintained that the legislature is equally working round the clock to improve on the security situation in the state.

Although Udemezue stated that security is a collective responsibility, he tasked the citizenry to assist the Police, Department of State Services(DSS) and others with information to enable them function optimally while commending Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for appointing Prince Ken Emeakayi to champion security concerns in the hinterlands as he believes that Emeakayi has what it takes to battle insecurity in the communities.
