LG Polls: Any Attempt By ANSIEC To Rig Ihiala Election Results Will Be Catastrophic --- LP Candidate

By Raymond Ozoji, Awka

The candidate of Labour Party for Ihiala Local Government chairmanship position in the September 28 Anambra State Local Government Polls, Chief Chinedu Nelson Orjiako has stated unequivocally that any attempt by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to rig Ihiala election results in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will be catastrophic.

Orjiako who told HEADLINE NEWS that it is only credible polls that will redeem and rescue Ihiala from maladministration and bad leadership, maintained that Ihiala has been held hostage for far too long and time has come for Ihiala to be emancipated from perennial servitude.

Orjiako noted that the forthcoming LG Election is a veritable platform for Ihiala people to be allowed to exercise their franchise in choosing who they want to be their chairman not someone already anointed by the powers that be.

Ikpemaraeziokwu as he is fondly called in Ihiala, said Ihiala people can no longer fold their hands and watch things deteriorate further into the abyss and that the upcoming local government election is a turning point in the lives of Ndi-Ihiala.

According to him, Ihiala won't accept anything short of free, credible and transparent election because he hinted that fillers from the grapevine has it that election results have been written in Awka and such results would be announced on September 28, 2024.

He said such will not happen in Ihiala because Ihiala is already battling with insecurity and any attempt to impose an APGA candidate not elected by the people will be vehemently resisted and rejected.

He however called on Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to know that there is an issue of insecurity and that Ihiala is already a volatile area. That the need to avert further escalations of the insecurity is of paramount importance.

The LP candidate therefore emphasized that the need to allow Ihiala people choose their next local government chairman is very important because they would no longer sacrifice their collective destiny on the alter of mediocrity, nepotism and godfatherism.

Orjiako further explained that any person coming to Ihiala without election materials to enable the people cast their votes quietly and retire home afterwards, will not be allowed because they will ensure adequate security coverage for the whole process.

Orjiako said, " Any ANSIEC person coming to Ihiala to write results should be very careful and know that it will bring another problem even the Anambra State Government can not contain because Ihiala people are angry already. "

He said such maybe allowed in other local governments but certainly not Ihiala Local Government Area because the people are earnestly yearning for true leadership.

He said that the people want the true person they want to become their local government chairman through a free and fair election as anything short of that will bring more insecurity and more problems in Ihiala Local Government Area.

According to him, Labour Party is the party to beat in the election. This he said was the remote reason the APGA led Anambra State House of Assembly hurriedly amended the state electoral laws to disenfranchise other political parties from participating in the council polls.

The LP flag bearer maintained that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is already enmeshed in problems with the Edozie Njoku led national leadership. He said they should sort out their differences and come back to challenge Labour Party at the local government polls.

According to him, Labour Party is coming to fix Ihiala and as a local government chairman under LP, Ihiala people should hold him accountable if they don't fix Ihiala and rescue her from marauders and predators.
