RAYMOND OZOJI reports
The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) says it is preparing the state capital for a beautiful Christmas and New Year experience as the capital city is currently wearing a befitting new look.
Award-winning Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Hon. Chief Ossy Onuko said his agency is improving the aesthetics of the capital city because the state according to him, can not have a capital city that is dull and drab especially in a Christmas period.
Onuko told HEADLINE NEWS in his office at Awka that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in his wisdom decided that ACTDA should do a total overhauling of the capital city through painting, cleaning and rearrangements so that the state can have the ambience that is befitting for the capital city and for the yuletide season as the world prepares to celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Onuko therefore stressed that ACTDA is painting new roads and the old ones too; marking them, cutting of grasses and cleaning of the streets and all sorts of sanitations are going on to give Awka a breathe of fresh air for residents and visitors that would be coming for the yuletide festivities.
He said that the Solution Fun City is coming up with alacrity due to the amount of work and dedication the governor has given to it. Onuko equally disclosed that the Awka City Park which is an initiative of the governor is a also coming up for Awka to have a replica of the Hyde Park in London where people can come for their picnics, mid time retreats, and a host other social gatherings, noting that the Awka City Park, when fully operational, will complement the Solution Fun City.
The award-winning Managing Director noted that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is intentionally trying to make Awka a destination point and not a departure lounge where people come and go. He maintained that government is intentionally building a capital city where people can live, work and relax.
He was therefore emphatic that Awka was a glorified village when they came on board but today the narrative has changed because the present state government is determined to Awka a leisure and an entertainment hub, adding that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is rebuilding and reorganizing Awka in a more different way.
In another development, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) conferred a tripartite recognition on Hon. Chief Ossy Onuko at the weekend during her end-of-the-year get-together at the Government House Awka.
Conferring the honours on him, one of which was the award of the Best Managing Director of government agencies in Anambra State, National President of ASATU Chief. Barr. Titus Nnabuike Akpudo said the wards were based his efforts to sanitizing the capital city especially from the menace of street trading and erection of illegal structures.
Akpudo noted that Awka is wearing a new look now because ACTDA is proactive and responsive in the discharge of their duties especially rescue missions as evident in evacuation of occupants of failed buildings at Ifite-Awka, Unizik tem site and some other places as many lives would have been lost if ACTDA hadn't intervened.
Ossy Onuko on his part, said the awards would spur him to do more work because Awka, according to him, must take it's pride of place as the state capital, adding that it was a rare privilege for the Presidents-General of the 179 communities of Anambra State to honour him.
He said he would continue to contribute his quota to support the agenda of the Solution Government while expressing profound gratitude to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for giving him the platform to prove his mettle and showcase his innovative skills and capacities in the administration and management of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), stressing that ACTDA is not destructive but corrective.
